Armed groups will continue to operate in Valencia’s flood-hit areas “as long as necessary”.

The pledge was made by Defense Minister Margarita Robles, who visited the region on Wednesday.

She investigated the removal of the vehicle and the ongoing search for three missing persons in the Barranco del Poto area.

Robles said the Joint Operations Coordination Center (Cecopi) will decide where troops are needed.

The minister emphasized the professionalism of the military, who “acknowledge the personal risks” involved in the work and “do not haggle over effort or time.”

Robles said “there is still a lot of work to be done,” especially in the search for missing people.

“The military will not stop until everyone is found,” she promised.

She visited the Turia River in Ribaroja, where the area was being searched for the fifth time to see if anyone could be found.

Two specialized teams are involved in the search there.

Robles praised the removal of the vehicles as a “very difficult, complex and time-consuming process.”

“Such operations take time as divers search for vehicles in poor visibility conditions,” the minister said.

“Once a vehicle is located, the removal process begins, but considering mud, swamps and water, the vehicle can weigh up to 6,000 kilograms.

Robles concluded by saying: “No one can doubt the professionalism and dedication of all the more than 25,000 military personnel who have already passed through Valencia in the approximately 10,000 missions assigned to them.”
