A Valencia region hospital has awarded a man 49,000 euros in compensation after a failed operation on his penis, which had been erect for more than 30 hours several days earlier.
The surgery to insert the penile prosthesis was not done properly and it fell out after a few days.
The man’s wife will also receive €5,000 in “moral” damages from the Regional Health Authority.

The payment ends a four-year battle between the 36-year-old Albayda patient and Valencian authorities.
In 2020, the victim went to the town’s health center after experiencing an erection that lasted four hours.
He was diagnosed with priapism. This is a condition of the penis that occurs without sexual arousal or stimulation.
It can be very painful and usually lasts up to 4 hours.
The man was told to go to Ontinient Hospital, where doctors delayed treatment.
The man and his wife visited the hospital again after 20 hours had passed since their first visit to the hospital, and their symptoms had not improved.
He was discharged with no improvement in his symptoms, but was given a priority urology appointment.
After a few minutes, the couple decided that this was not enough and went back to the hospital, where they were referred to Luis Alcañiz Hospital in Xativa.
Doctors there admitted him to the hospital and diagnosed him with a fever and priapism.
After his fever subsided, he was discharged from the hospital, but a few days later underwent successful surgery to insert a malleable penile prosthesis.
A few days after the surgery, the prosthesis “dislodged,” but Valencia Regional Legal Counseling Council said the cause was “improper fitting.”
The result was permanent erectile dysfunction, loss of sensation and muscle strength in my right arm, and pain in my left leg.
The couple will receive nearly 55,000 euros in damages in the coming weeks.
