On January 12, Mallorca recorded its first snowfall of 2025. A cold front that blanketed the Balearic Islands brought the first snow of the year to the highest peaks of Mallorca’s Serra de Tramuntana.
By the early morning hours of Sunday, January 12th, only a little snow had fallen, but the mountains of Serra were covered in snow.
Mallorca’s first snow of 2025 has caught the attention of geographers on social media.
Geographer Alberto Dader explained on social media that snow began to fall at 6am at an altitude of about 1,300 meters. Along with the snowfall came a hailstorm.
Darder also hinted at the possibility of more snow in the near future, predicting new low-level snow later in the week, adding: “We’ll see.” He seemed confident. Although my theory usually works. ”
The state weather bureau had warned residents in advance of the sudden change in temperature. mallorca It announced that the minimum temperature should reach 7 degrees Celsius from Sunday, January 12 through this week.
They also suggested that light frosts are expected in the highlands of the Tramuntana Mountains as temperatures continue to drop.
The cold weather is expected to continue into next week, with the lowest temperature expected on Monday, January 20th, with residents of Palma also expected to experience a low of 1°C.
